Cradle Cap: Panic Not, Approach Sensibly

Popularly known as infantile seborrhoeic dermatitis, cradle cap occurs because of some hormonal disorder in sebaceous glands which makes it hyper active and is passed to the baby through placenta during pregnancy. This results in the growth of skin cells on baby's head. The best way to get rid of it is to apply baby oil on the scalp of the baby and after a few minutes when the oil softens and looses scale, brush or comb gently. Another method can be by washing the baby's head by a baby shampoo. However, this might not be the right thing to do in the harsh winter months.

Though cradle cap is found to improve with time but in case it does not then the best thing would be to consult a doctor who might advise medicated shampoo or cradle crap cream. However, one must refrain from using force to remove the layers. Any complication here can actually lead to situation getting worse, so the best thing would be to stick to doctor's advise and wait patiently.
